Elephant's Trunk Recap

At 5:am our alarm woke us up on Sunday (we hit snooze about 10 times). By 6:30am we were our of the house and on our way to Connecticut to Elephant's Trunk. When we arrived at 7:30am we were kind of surprised to see a packed parking lot and tons of people already leaving with their new-found treasures. It was not exactly what we were dreaming it would be, a bit smaller, a bit less organized, however we were pleasantly surprised by the time we left, four hours later.

Most of the vendors were pushing antiques, which was a bonus for us. We were looking for items salvaged from old building, and though we did not find many architectural focused tables, we did score some awesome pieces.

We walked away with :

An old window for $10 ( I have been collecting these for many years, and this was a STEAL)

A farm bell machine of some sort from 1890.

A sled which pulled wood on a farm from the late 1800's

A light from a ship from the late 1800's (all three for $100)

A vintage owl pillow $10

A handmade birdhouse $22

Iron shelf brackets $20

Metal design thingie $10

A vintage Cape Cod Flag $10

Game of Whang $10

For amateurs, we feel we did pretty well. There were some pieces of art and furniture we would have loved to buy, but we were not prepared with a mode of transportation that would fit these items. All and all is we a great day of treasure hunting and bargaining. We deffinatly plan to go back prepared now that we know the drill. For those of you thinking about heading to the trunk, it's worth the $2 entry and getting up early. We didn't eat at the vendor stands, but we did snag up some fresh made donuts, and they were amazing.

Great finds! I was just at the Trunk this weekend and got some cool "junk". Very easy to get to from my home in Danbury. If you haven't already, think about going to the Stormville Flea Market next weekend (Memorial Day weekend on Sunday). It's about maybe 1 hr. 15 (maybe less?) min from New Ro/Scars/Larchmont and it is WORTH the trip for old and new items. It is at the old Stormville airport in--you guessed it Stormville, NY, just north of Carmel. Take Taconic North to Rte 52 exit. I plan on being there--hope you go and check it out! Much bigger than the Trunk.

Alissa,

Thanks so much for the tip! I just read your comment. We have been on a bit of a holiday. Was it only this past weekend?! I would love to go!!! What did you wind up taking home from the Trunk?!
