Admittedly, we haven't been blogging very long. We knew when we started, there would be up's and down's - good and bad. We have received so much wonderful mail and comments - it's the fuel that drives us to continue. We love every single tweeter, comment'er, emailer and reader equally. We figured, we are growing a community - and a wonderful one at that - what could possibly go wrong?
Then we got this:

Now, we can absolutely deal with someone not enjoying our home. I mean hey, it's not for everyone, and we understood that coming into this. However, how freaky is it that they suggest a tour so they can recommend a place for us to commit suicide? My heard dropped. Our first hate mail, was perhaps the harshest thing I have ever read directed at me (and Joey!).
We hate to be a Debbie Downer, but we are curious if this has ever happened to you. I couldn't image with a home blog, contact like this would happen. We want to know if this is unique, or kinda happens to everyone. Tell us what you know - 'cause we are kinda freaked out!

Many people don't like seeing others succeed. I'd chalk it up to plain ol' jealousy and then throw it away.
Yes, I've gotten hate mail. And it stinks because you're putting it all out there. I first started blogging a few years ago. It was sporadic at best but a lot of fun. Two years ago last week, I wrote in the blog that I was having to shut down because my daughter had just been diagnosed with leukemia. Most of the few comments were very sympathetic but there was that one...it made me cry. I was open, raw and terrified with someone telling me it was my fault my three year old had cancer. {Her story is at alyson.mystyl.us & has been mentioned on ohdeedoh} {Aside: Her site is down for maintenance due to a wordpress attack. I hope to have it back up within the next few days of Aug 17th}
You have to let the haters self-destruct. Obviously mine was wrong and yours is too.

That's awful There is really nothing else to say about these people like that other than "gross". I am so sorry about your very bad news, and the single bad response you got. Like we all learned growing up " If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all".
I don't have a blog of my own, but I read a lot of other blogs and it seems like they all have had this experience at some point. There always has to be at least one miserable person out there to try and bring others down, it's really a shame. I also would be shocked and upset if I received such an email, but in the end you just have to delete their comment and focus on the positive feed back. In the end, if someone doesn't like your house or your blog then they're an idiot for wasting their time reading it.
Don't let it get cha down sister. Keep on trucking. I just discovered your blog last week and I enjoyed looking at your pics and reading your posts very much so.
Pure and utter jealous is what I see it as! Your house is gorgeous, and you two are working so hard at it. Take it with a grain of salt and know that there are looooots of people out here reading that ADORE your posts!
Sorry to hear about your blog bully. I agree with the others - click it to the trash and smile with pride because I think you're home is beautiful. DIY and decorating in ways that make the two of you happy is what matters most and besides - lots of praise and admiration comes your way for a job well done!

I couldn't have said it better myself. I haven't received any hate mail yet, but that would make my jaw drop too! Yikes!

I started reading your blog just last week and love it. Maybe I have a different opinion or a sick sense of humor but this made me laugh. Obviously not for how it made you feel but SERIOUSLY that email is ridiculous. I mean, come on... this person is suffering some serious derangement.
Nothing fuels the trolls more than throwing gasoline on them, so why not douse them in a flame-retardant substance instead. If it were me, I'd do the photo tour complete with captions on ways in which I could find to off myself in each room. Head in the oven in the kitchen, bottle of pills from the bathroom, swan dive off a balcony. I'd have fun with that one.. but like I said, I'm sick. Bonus, readers get a guided tour of all the rooms and this person slinks away knowing that their email didn't phase you in the way they had hoped.
And congrats, I think hate mail is a sure sign you are a success!!

Found you on RMS. I'm stunned by that horrible email. I would copy that message and email address and keep it somwhere in case he/she starts posting on other blogs. That address can be traced.

These kind of people that don't even have a specific criticism (something like "I hate your sheep skin rugs because I'm a vegan" at least has a reason) are just trolls. They probably don't even really hate your house, or have any thoughts about it, they are just trying to get a rise out of you. I can't believe there's really someone who is so passionate about your style that they actually wish you harm. Although shocking, I would give the least credence to this type of criticism. And obviously, trying to respond to it just adds to the troll's fun.
Sounds like someone that is truly jealous of the life you have. I wouldn't listen to them. They seem like a really angry person who only feels better saying cruel things to other. Which, shouldn't be worth your time! Besides, you're house is very cute!

sounds like a troll to me. they sign up for fake emails and just do things like that - big on message boards. So while you were using your time to make over your beautiful home, they were taking the time to do that. clearly, you win :)
Wow that is really harsh. You know how I would take it, (it is kinda morbid) If some one hates you then you must be doing something right. They must be jealous or something. I think your blog is great.
She sounds crazy!! I came across your blog a week or so back and the minute I saw the pictures of your house I was awestruck!! It's like a Cinderella cottage or something! The perfect place to call home! They are probably just jealous that you were able to find a beautiful home!!
