We're Juicy

Happy Tuesday pretty people! Joey and I have been on a bit of a juicing kick lately! It's been fun. We watched a documentary Fat Sick and Nearly Dead and it really inspired us to add more veggies and fruits to our diet. The easiest way to hit your daily requirements, is juice!

Joey is a meat eater, and I am a vegetarian so it's been interesting to see how different our taste is when it comes to turning solids into juice. Once of my all times faves is this simple juice recipe:

2 beets

2 apples

a chunk of ginger

1/2 lemon

It's tasts just like apple cider, and it really pretty. The benefits of the ginger alone are amazing.

  • strong antioxidant
  • Antimicrobial (kills bacteria - including salmonella) - internally and topically as an antiseptic
  • two natural antibiotics are found in ginger
  • contains anti-inflammatory agents
  • helps eliminate congestion
  • known to inhibit cell adhesion, invasion, motility and activities of all types of cancers

Fruits and veggies are better for you when they are in their raw form. Cooking them decrease their nutrition value significantly.

So our mornings look like this now! Every day! Joey is really into citrus. He makes this cocktail a lot like that drink 5 Alive! Here is what he does, and it's filled with vitamin C:

1 grapefruit

2-3 oranges

1 lemon

1 lime

a handful of clementines

Sometimes I add this Acai power to berry juices I make. You have to stir it in really good, but it's worth the extra antioxidants. You can get a juicer pretty cheap too! We got ours on Amazon, it was less than $100 and so worth it. I would suggest getting one that's made of more metal than plastic in the mechanics. Let us know about any juices you make! We are on board to try something new!

i love juicing too! but sometimes it is a lot of work so i make a smoothie instead with spirulina and chia seeds. the recipe goes like this...for 1 serving, blend 1 banana, 1 tsp spirulina powder, 1/2 tbs chia seeds, and 1 c grapefruit juice. my husband and i have been drinking it every morning and the spirulina gives great energy! i bought the spirulina on amazon too to save money.

My husband and I also recently watched this movie and have started juicing as well. One of our favorites is the Sunset Blend (recipe here: http://jointhereboot.com/reboot-program/recipes/juice-recipes/).
