Weirdo Things Are Happening
Perhaps Mother Nature has hear about the internal fouls in Casa Katsaros. Perhaps she wanted to chip in and add to the chaos. In the form of garlic, of course.
So the garlic I planted back in winter looked a little sad, so I decided to check her out.
Um, is this normal? It's like a colony of onions, not a bulb of garlic.
Has anyone had this happen to them? Did I prematurely pick my garlic, and this is totally normal? Or is this, like, some mutant weirdness and the whole batch is a failure?

Random! and weird... i wonder what's up! Sorry I'm no help... I'm just starting to garden as well. My newest find was a beautiful little white flower on my eggplant... Google?
PS. Just saw the announcement on YHL! Super fun! You must be so excited!! Can't wait to see what you (and everyone) comes up with!
I also had that happen to me and it really freaked me out, only I just happened upon the bulbs while I turning some soil. I don't think I ever intentionally planted something, I just came across it. If you figure out what they are please keep us updated!
I think those are just wild scallions. I'm not sure, but thinking your garlic didn't make it and just rejoined the earth. :(
The good news is, you can eat those scallions if you like!
Hi! I'm checking out your blog for the first time and saw this post! I just bought a house that has tons of garlic growing in the yard. I'm a bit of a novice to all things gardening, but from what our neighbor told us I know that garlic takes 2 years to mature. I also know that garlic bulbs grow "baby" garlics off their roots. Often when I pull up a mature garlic bulb it has several little guys that look like the ones in your picture growing off the bottom. I was told that if you just pull them off and bury them or simply throw them back in the garden they will grow. It seems like garlic is pretty hearty, so from my limited knowledge I would guess that what has happened to yours is normal, or at least okay, and if you leave it in the yard it will eventually come up strong and you should be able to harvest it in a year or two. I hope that helps. Good luck!
@amy you always put a smile on my face. thanks for the love and good luck with the eggplant!
@shannon i 100% planted garlic there - what happened, i have no idea! it even smells bad!
@anne ha! i hope not! i planted so much garlic. i was super hoping one bulb would survive!
@caroline welcome! thanks for the tip! so happy to hear i may not have mutated soil! back in the ground they will go and i will cross fingers!
