Oh, how I love the blogging community....
As a recent blog owner, and long time blog reader, I am often overwhelmed about maintaining a blog and keeping people interested while still having time to read all the wonderful blogs out there I adore. With only so many hours in the day for work, cooking, cleaning, errands, blogging and personal time, somehow these new ventures have taken a priority. They feel like a little bit of "me time". I really enjoy the community I have been involved with so far. Everyone has been so sweet and talented in so many unique ways. Sometimes it doesn't feel like we are divided by miles and oceans.
I thought it would be nice to just give a little info to all the people out there like Joey and I who are kinda new at being active in the blogging world. If you have any information about blogging events, awards, or best practice, please share in the comment section.
How I show the love:
1. I check out all the ads I see on any new blog I come across. It's a nice thing to do because a.) I may find something I absolutely must have and b.) It helps support bloggers in a small way. Every click counts.
2.) I have become a recent comment junkie. I realize how much I love comments! It shows people are taking interest, hence I comment even just to say I like a post or let someone know I am reading what they said. I use to never say anything and I started to feel like a lurker. Now, I am excited to say a little something.
3.) Everyone has something to share. From inspiration to projects, it's endless. I find new blogs each day! My list is almost impossible to keep up with. This doesn't prevent me from keeping the search going.
4.) Support! No matter the contest or competition at hand I notice everyone supporting one another. During the Homies this seemed to ring very true and it made me happy to witness.
5.) Linking of course! What better way to share your finds then a blog roll?!
Blogging/Interactive Events:
From March 12th-21st Austin, TX will be taken over once again by SXSW. The interactive portion will take place March 12th-16th and it always worth the face time.
Blogher, perhaps one of the largest blogging conferences is taking place August 5-7 in New York, NY. You can find out more info at Blogher.com. I hope to make it this year!
Altitude Design Summit, AKA Alt. just wrapped up last month. I did not make it, but I am very excited to go next year. I love anything that has to do with design. I feel like I would be a little kid in a candy shop here.
Blogging Awards:
The Homies started up in 2008 and immediately became a hit with the blogging community in the "home" department. The awards are held by none other than Apartment Therapy and can be found here, annually.
The Poppies are a "virtual award event" hosted by the blog Poppytalk run by Jan and Earl a bit north of us in Canada.
