Once Wed (or how we turned into DIY people)

What on earth are we doing talking about weddings? I know, I know...but listen....

Planning our wedding helped define who we are as a couple. How we make decisions. How we comprise. In fact I think it made us so strong, buying a house together turned into something much easier than we anticipated (beyond the realtors, lawyer, mortgage, and the fun part - house hunting).

Our wedding was hand made. Everything. Our clothes (by professionals of course) down to our gocco printed napkins. We made everything together or with friends. It was a great accomplishment being we had to set up in New York and get it all to Jamaica with no shipping at our luxury. Joey and Jonah (from onelinedrawing and Far) wrote songs, recipe's were given to our venue, invitations were a blood sweat and tears effort of gocco machine meets sewing machine. We aren't complaining. It's what we wanted. Exactly what we wanted. We can't help but look back it that week and get blissfully giddy about how wonderful it truly was.

Something odd about us is we didn't do the "normal" engaged thing. No wedding magazines. Our wedding planner was a friend we trusted. Nothing about our wedding was wedding-y. A great resource, I should clarify, our only resource was this amazing blog. Oncewed.com.

It's run by this amazingly sweet girl Emily who has blown up all over the internet in the matter of a year. Her posts are overwhelmingly inprirational. If you are a bride looking to have a DIY wedding or even someone who just enjoys making sweet nothings, you should check it out. Our wedding was last Spring, and I still can't help but peek over.

The most awesome part of discovering the blog was winning our photographer Jen Curtis. She captured all of the goods and was such an asset to the happenings. I couldn't have imaged it any other way.

What are you still doing here? Go check out OnceWed.com and JenCurtis.com!
