Sofa Sourcing

Ahhhh....sofa's. A touchy subject around here. Our house is a traditional tutor and we have respected that, for the most part. We always pictures getting a big 'ol chesterfield couch, but that doesn't mean I haven't been day dreaming of something more....fun.

                  blue tufted couch

This blue belle is a perfect combo of Joey and myself. I hope we can find it in reality. Searching online is all well and good for pictures, but this specific one has been hard to come by. Oh soft and cozy-non-frumpy-couch, come to mama.

This Restoration Hardware staple has been another one we agree on, but I worry about puppies and future babies smearing unthinkables on this linen covered masterpiece. We have matching wingbacks and that can get a little dull and matchy-matchy, but I still think she's worth looking at.

This extra long bad boy is also from Restoration Hardware and is the one we agree on for sensible reasons. It's baby and pet friendly. It's deep and cozy, and it works with the over all voice of the house.

bird couch

Now this pretty Anthropologie piece is not a main couch by any streatch, but how pretty are those birds on the fabric of this couch? Swoon!

 chevron couch

There is just something about this couch that gets my wheels turning! It's like Ikat meetc chevron with doily details. How sweet? Joey wouldn't go for it. But, remember, I am dreaming.

Junk in the Trunk

Whew! Yesterday was exciting! If you missed the buzz check out #pinterestchallenge on twitter or the post below! We would super love if you can join in the Pinterest Challenge and be inspired to knock something off your Pinterest to-do list!

Not that long ago we went to Elephants Trunk in Connecticut. We started going last year and have been successful with each trip. This year we got about three rows in before we found the "golden" piece we wanted to adopt. One problem, she wouldn't quite fit in our trunk...

Never say die! I bet the people at BMW never thought their emergency kit would be used for fitting

junk in a trunk. Just one tiny screwdriver, and we were set!

Joey just took the wooden frame off our secret piece, and she was finally ready to come home.

A ton of sweat later we were back on our way to New York with some prized possession. This time we bought only art. The secret piece above, and some fun stuff below!

If you can't quite see because of the glare it's a creepy boy in a kilt pointing and a black and white photo of an all-girls school class. Lurv. Call us weird, we don't care. :)

We don't quite know where we are putting the creepy boy, or what to do with that gaudy frame, but we found a home fir the black and white picture right away.

And what's with the big 'ol piece that didn't fit in the trunk you ask? Let's zoom out and see!

Ta-da! It's a prohibition Schlitz sign! Being Schlitz couldn't sell beer, they sold their syrup! It's a

bit worn and has a ton of character. It's made of tin and framed in wood. It just so happened to

fit perfectly over the table Joey made. A few more angles for your viewing pleasure...

We are super loving it. It's the second thing we have hung on the wall to date. The first, if you missed it, wasn't that long ago! Oh, the panic of hanging something perfectly!

So now that question at hand is, what to do with this creepy boy? Is it too whack-a-do to hang in a very open space? Think neighbors and new friends seeing it in the living room or foyer. Perhaps in the upstairs hallway or a bathroom. Thinking. Thinking....

Tell us what you would think if you saw this bad boy hanging out in an entry way...

MirrorMate.com Winner + Book Club Much?

We are super stoked to announce our winner for the MirrorMate.com giveaway. Congrats to you Miss Laura! Let us know how your mirror turns out, we would love to know!

Stay tuned, we have another giveaway starting this week. We are pretty darn sure you will be drooling over the one of a kind giveaway, exclusive to Make a House a Home!

In other news, it was payday today, so a little shopidy shopping is happening over her at MAHAH. I was going through my Amazon.com wish list, and kinda giggled when I noticed this.

I am very excited to see these two very talented ladies release both these books. I will be sure to report back with shiny nuggets when I am finished reading these bad boys. I can only imagine the jewels inside.

How great is this? Christiane Lemieux, founder of DwellStudio releases, Undecorate: The No-Rules Approach to Interior Design at about the same time Holly Becker, editor of Decor8Blog.com, is about to release Decorate: 1,000 Design Ideas for Every Room in Your Home. Um....HELLO Summer reading list!

Some great "reading" material to show up at our door this week has been the Restoration Hardware Source Book, and the 2011 Dedon Collection. Two of my faves for sure. You can check out a digital copy of Restoration Hardwares Source Book by clicking the image below.

The Dedon Catalog makes me dream of sunny days and outdoor living. If you haven't checked out their offerings, it's worth a shot, just to look at the lovely pictures for inspiration alone. Can I have one of these, please?

Speaking of reading material, I just finished The Help, and have been scouting out something new to read. Nothing too heavy, nothing intense or scary. Something fiction. Any suggestions?

Just so you know, the Amazon links above are affiliate links. Thanks for clickin'!
