Cha cha cha changes!: Master Bedroom

Sooooooo, we made some changes to the bedroom. When we build the bed, we placed it on the far side of the master bedroom - in front of a window. We were always "eh" about it, but it made the most sense because of where the cable is hooked up. Then Mr. Orlando questioned it, and while I was defending my decision, I realized I was talking fluff. Here is what it's looked like for the past six months:

Meh at best. To give you an idea of what's going on, on the other side of the room:

So with the new year, we went for a new look. A little more interest, color pops, and smiles.

We kept the moose in his home (check out a nifty tip on how we hung him!), and added some more art and curiosities.

Things changed by the bathroom hallway a lot! We moved our Timothy Oulton chest console and put a real vintage school map above it. We really love it over here now.

If you take a few steps back, the couch and coffee table are pretty much in the same spot they were before. It just works.

The window that was covered up by the bed, is now free to let even more light in! So much better!

The chest across the room got a new lamp and shade, and I moved the succulants closer to the natural light.

The bed was moved to where our old bed use to be when we first moved in. It looks a bit wonky because we still have a queen mattress on the king frame. Shame on us. We resolve to get the king mattress in the next few months. I was able to find our old duvet cover from dwell again, right after I purchased one from Orla Kiely. Oh well!

We added some light to that dark corner. 'Sup classy brass?

Joey got me this super cute peace plate for Christmas. I wouldn't dare eat off of it. Hello new home for air plant.

So that's where we are with our master bedroom. It feels more lived in and less sterile than before. I love what a little color has done! Have you ever had that happen to you? Just add a little color, and the whole feeling of the room changes?

New Hobby: Listchecker

Hey there pretty people! Yep! As soon as the list was written I got to work. This is what the guest room looks like this very moment:

grey

I finished sewing the curtains for the closets, and now I just need to add a little trim work to the tops, see the big 'ol gaps? I hung them both with tension rods. I also grey washed both of the closets to match better with the grey trim in the room.

I completed one panel of curtains, and have three more to go. This one took a while because I decided to line it with new fabric I was waiting on. It's getting chilly! Gotta save that $ wherever we can. Also, sewing pom pom's....it's a chore! But don't they look cute?

handmade

As you can see from my 30 Days to rental ready list, #3, #4, and #5 involve grey washing a "Restoration Hardware" like finish on some items in our home. I wanted to test out what I have read online on a raw piece of furniture before I hit the big boy stuff. Here is a closer look of the closets washed grey:

If you dig the grey wash as much as we do here is what you do:

The Restoration Hardware Grey wash Look

1 part glaze

2 part grey paint (we used Martha Stewart's Winters Day)

Mix well in a plastic container.

Paint on wood with the intention of getting the paint on the wood, like in the corners and evenly across.

Use an old T-shirt or painters rags and rub is into the wood so you don't see any brush strokes.

Let dry.

So, I can't reaaaaaaaaaallllly check anything off the list because I have more curtains to sew and the grey washing of the closets were not on the list, but at least now I know it works! And to be bold, and go someplace where most bloggers don't, I will share the other side of the room

Lots 'o stuffs to deal with. But I am so excited to feel the pressure of having to get it all done. Am I nutso? Have a wonderful and productive weekend!

Shim Shimma

Hello lovelies! We are off to a late start this week, with good reason. My dad turned 70! We took a little trip to celebrate with some family and now we are back home cracking the whip at the good 'ol to-do list! Gotta love the perks of real time blogging!

So, we have been living like this in our master bedroom for months....

Ugh. Not so safe. Not so pretty. I just super hated those plastic off white guards so much. So, We switched out all the faceplates in the room with these...

Mucho better! Notice one of the slots where a switch is supposto live is empty? That's where good 'ol Mr. fan is going to reside - once we finally make a decision on a fan! So for now this one looks a bit wonky, but the rest look super slick!

One thing we are on the fence about it the white switch inside the faceplate. Just don't know how to feel about that yet, but we are super in love the with hearty brushed metal faceplace, no doubt. Now to think about the brass knobs! Some more shimma we added to the room came in the form of spraypaint!

The master bedroom had this tiny speck of pink I just couldn't handle any more. I had to do something about it. I loved the vase that was pink, but I just didn't dig the color for the bedroom

So I lugged her outside while Joey was working on the cabinets for the kitchen, plopped us in the middle of the back yard along with some silver spray paint and foil.

I wrapped the rubber plant in the foil, as to not put stress on her by repotting, the potting back in the pink vessel. She's one of the few plants I haven't killed yet.

Then I simply went to town with the silver spray paint. No prepping or priming, just straight paint on vase action. And it worked. And it looks sooooooooooo much better in the bedroom!

It's not that I don't like pink, I love pink! I just didn't want pink in the bedroom!

So there it is! I am still figuring out what to do with the foot of the vase. I want to think of something unique!

So how was your weekend? Did you add some shimma somewhere in your home?! I want to see.
